ARQIS has advised the BAUKING Group, a subsidiary of the cement group CRH, in relation to the expansion of its building materials trade.

For this purpose BAUKING has acquired AGP Baustoffe GmbH. The relevant contracts were concluded with AGP company member and managing director Christoph Meier. The Federal Cartel Office has approved the transaction.

AGP, the previous shareholder of EUROBAUSTOFF, operates three branch offices carrying on building materials trade in Wernigerode, Wolfenbüttel and Braunschweig and also, since the start of 2017, a specialist dry construction centre in Braunschweig. AGP has been able to triple its turnover over the last ten years to its current level of 62 million euros. There are at present 133 BAUKING branches, including 53 hardware stores, which are operated under the Hagebau franchising system. With the operations of AGP included, the Group’s total turnover amounts to almost 1 billion euros per year.

BAUKING is owned by the Irish CRH Group, headquartered in Dublin, which is listed on the Dublin, London and New York stock markets and has an annual turnover of 27.1 billion euros (2016), 4,000 locations in 31 countries and 90,000 employees. It is thus one of the largest groups in the world engaged in the production and sale of construction materials and construction-related products.

The ARQIS team around lead partner Dr. Jörn-Christian Schulze had already advised CRH in 2015 on the acquisition of German assets from the construction materials producers Lafarge and Holcim which have merged by now.
